Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) was established in 2001 with the prime responsibilities to transmit and distribute electricity in the Uttarakhand state. In 2003, the ‘’Power Transmission Corporation of Uttarakhand Limited” took over the power transmission business in the state, living UPCL with the only responsibility i.e. the distribution of electricity in Uttrakhand. The company has more than 2 million users across the state. Formerly, the state had a single organization, State Electricity Board (UPSEB), which was trifurcated into Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (UPJVNL), UP, Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited and Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) UP.
